Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) was in the process of actively engaging in Solid Waste Management and, thus, needed to train promising staff as lecturers and researchers. A SWM curriculum was produced, with emphasis on landfill technology, and staff was trained. A pilot plant for landfill gas capturing was designed, built and gas production rate monitored for the first one year. Comparing modeled landfill gas emission rates with those measured was a major element in the training.
